The trio of SB Tremaine Hill, QB Mike Seidenberg and QB Pat Thompson helped Rowan roll up 249 yards of rushing Friday night in its 27-6 victory over New Jersey Athletic Conference rival William Paterson at Wightman Field.

Overall, the Profs (7-2, 3-1 NJAC) outgained the Pioneers (1-9, 0-5 NJAC), which gained just 200 yards of total offense compared to the opposition's 357. Thompson rushed for 70 yards and a touchdown, while Seidenberg and Hill each amassed 62. Seidenberg also scored a fourth-quarter touchdown on a 14-yard quarterback draw.

After being kept in check for much of the first quarter, Brandon Medine scooped up a fumbled punt snap and ran in from three yards out to give his team a 7-0 lead with eight seconds left in the first quarter.

From there, the Rowan ground game dominated the Pioneers' defense. The Profs used a methodical 13-play, 71-yard drive that featured two fourth-down conversions and ended when Thompson scampered in from 17 yards out to make it 14-0 with 4:15 left in the half. The drive took 6:07 off the clock.

Rowan increased its lead to 20-0 in the third when Seidenberg hit Phil Silva on a four-yard scoring toss to cap a 14-play, 86-yard directive that ate 4:53 off the clock. In addition to his rushing efforts, Seidenberg finished 7-of-9 for 73 yards passing after relieving freshman Jabrill Joseph, who rushed for 38 yards while throwing for 35 more by completing five of his 12 attempts.

William Paterson finally put up some points after a 35-yard punt return by Tom Larsen put the ball on the Rowan 4. Two plays later, freshman FB Thomas Murphy hit pay dirt from three yards out. Senior FB Evan Quinn, one of three Pioneers playing in his final game, scored on a one-yard run with two seconds left to cap the scoring.

Defensively, Domenic Tomeo led the Profs with 12 tackles and a fumble recovery, while Todd Trout added nine stops and a sack as they held the Pioneers to 64 yards rushing on 38 carries.

The Profs had the game in hand for all four quarters and looked to have their minds on Montclair this coming Saturday. Various players were being rested and there was a heavier then normal player rotation in the defense. Rowan had quite a few penalties and had some special teams let downs that contributed to late scores by the Pioneers. The sloppiness should lead to sharp practices this week as the Profs ready for Montclair. Accorsi should have plenty to complaining to do while preparing his charges for the Red Hawks.

With TCNJ loss to Brockport, it looks as if only the winner in Glassboro gets an Pool B NCAA bid. All the marbles are on the cards, who walks away with the NJAC title and a playoff bid. See you in the Boro on the 15th at 1pm.

This is the 33rd meeting between Rowan University and William Paterson University. The Profs have won eight straight games against the Pioneers and lead the series, 27-5. At home last year, Rowan defeated WPU, 70-7. William Paterson's last win over Rowan was in 1994, 18-14 in Glassboro.

At home, Rowan rolled over William Paterson, 70-7. Quarterback Tony Racioppi passed for 342 yards and had five touchdowns. The Profs broke the school record for biggest point spread victory. This is the fourth season for Larry Arico as head football coach at William Paterson University. Last year the Pioneers finished the sesason with a 1-9 record. His career record stands at 7-32.

Prior, he coached for seven years at Fairleigh Dickinson at Madison. He was the Blue Devils ' head coach from 1997-99 and served as the offensive coordinator from 1993-97.

Arico is the 10th head coach in the 28 year history of varsity football at WilliamPaterson.

In 1999, Arico guided FDU-Madison to a 5-5 record and a berth in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) East Region Championship game just two seasons after finishing 0-10. His three-year coaching mark was 7-24 with the Blue Devils.

Arico graduated from Lehigh University in 1992.He was an All-Patriot League tailback who set the school record for consecutive 100yards rushing with six games and rushing touchdowns in a single game with four. He finished his collegiate career with 1,500 rushing yards.

On the road, William Paterson lost its sixth straight game against Mount Ida, 26-22. Fullback Thomas Murphy scored two touchdowns rushing (one and three yards) and had one touchdown catch of 49 yards. Murphy finished the game with 73 yards rushing (21 attempts) and 63 yards receiving (three receptions). Bryant Richardson led the receivers with 106 yards on five catches. Quarterback Rob Garczynski totaled 203 yards with nine completions in 20 attempts. Ricky Vesce and Qaadir Majeed compiled eight (5-3) and seven (6-1) tackles respectively. Tom Larsen recorded a 23 yard interception return.

Rob Garczynski starts at quarterback and his backup Darrell Russian has seen plenty of action this season. Both players are in their first season. Richardson is the top receiver with 45.2 yards per game and 17.7 yards per catch. Murphy, a rookie, is joined in the backfield by halfback Jeff Lee. Murphy averages 4.0 yards per attempt.

Majeed is the team's tackle leader and his 8.1 average ranks him sixth in the conference. Vesce has recorded five sacks (-38) and 11 tackles for a loss (-46). He is fifth in the NJAC with a 0.67 sack average. Larsen is first on the team in interceptions with four. He also has recovered three fumbles which ties him for first in the NJAC.

Mike Orihel was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Offensive Rookie of theWeek for his performance against Kean.

Thompson needs 222 yards to reach the 1,000 yard mark. He has totaled 778 yards with132 attempts. In three games, Thompson rushed for more than 100 yards this season. He recorded a career high of 191 yards against The College of New Jersey with 18 carries. His 97.2 yards per game ranks him third in the conference. Thompson has 36 points with six touchdowns.

Orihel returned to the lineup last week after missing the Southern Connecticut game. He is averaging 211.3 yards per game which is first in the conference. Orihel also leads the NJAC in total offense (210.6) and pass efficiency (124.5). His top receivers are Racz and Silva. Racz is third in the NJAC with 3.62 receptions and 52.5 yards per game. Silva is ranked fourth in receptions per game with 3.50. In the NJAC team stats, Rowan is first in pass offense (201.1) and total offense (371.1), second in scoring (25.4) and tied for second in rushing (170.0).

Tomeo is averaging 11.5 tackles per game which is first in the NJAC. He also has forced three fumbles and recovered one. Linebacker Mike McClain has recorded four sacks (-24) and has 14 tackles for a loss (-37). End Nick Tarasevich is tied for third in the conference with a 0.75 sack average. He has compiled six sacks for a loss of 39 yards. Cornerback Kelvin Bellamy is the team's interception leader with three. Bellamy is averaging 12.9 yards on punt returns which is first in the NJAC. In the conference, Rowan is first in scoring defense (15.5), second in pass efficiency defense (102.8) and third in rushing defense (115.2)

William Paterson has had great difficulty retaining football players from year-to-year. In comparing the two-deep roster from last year only two offensive starters return, while one returns on defense this year. The lineup is dotted with many new faces that are Freshman and Sophomores.

The Pioneers are last in the NJAC in scoring defense with 26.8 ypg, rushing offense with 73.8 ypg, rushing defense with 149.7 ypg, total offense with 207.2 ypg, and total defense 327.3. WPU has been able to stay within 10 points of Kean, Montclair, and Cortland. The Profs should take note and push the peddle all the way to the floor on Friday night. Taking Pioneers lightly could make the game closer than it should be. The Profs are due for a laugher, and WPU might be the cure for the fits and starts the offense has experienced this year.
