The Profs started
shaking the rust off the offense and kicked it into gear against
Christopher Newport this Saturday. All the Rowan scoring drives
lasted six plays or less, as Tony Racioppi threw for four touchdowns
and ran for another. Racioppi had 256 yards (13-23) with one interception
on the day.
CNU scored first
on a 33 yard TD pass to WR Nathan Davis from QB Eric Carlson with
1:18 to go in the first quarter. Rowan followed with a 24 second
drive on a 65 middle screen pass to RB Patrick Thompson, to tie
the score at 7 all. A key block from OL Michael Nemeth, who took
out two defenders during the play, sprung Thompson.
The Profs went up
14-7 at half on a 62 yard TD pass to WR Luis Cortes late in the
second quarter. Racioppi had a 3 yard run for a TD, and a 4 yard
TD pass to Michael Osborne in the second half, putting Rowan up
34-7.
The Rowan defense
intercepted CNU three times and sacked Carlson six times. Carlson
was rushed and hurried numerous other times. The Captains were
held to 237 yards of total offense.
