After forcing Rowan
to punt on the opening series, Buffalo St. went on a 14 play,
77 yard drive for a TD. This put the Bengals up 7- 0 midway through
the first quarter. The Prof offense was having trouble kicking
into gear, until a sideline offensive meeting run by a fired up
Tony Racioppi appeared to waken the Rowan offense.
The Profs went on
an 80 yard, 5 play drive capped off by two successive running
plays. RB Patrick Thompson scampered 32 yards to put Rowan on
the Buff St. 20 yard line. Then RB Creg Bethea took over running
the ball in for the TD on a 20 yard run. A failed extra point
left Buff St. up 7-6 with 6:19 left in the second quarter. The
Profs went on to score the next 22 points, while forcing four
turnovers.
With 11 seconds
left in the half, Rowan scored its second TD of the game on a
21 yard pass to WR Jon Berry from Racioppi, going up to stay at
13-7.
In the second half,
the Profs took their first possession 84 yards for another TD.
WR Michael Osborne hauled in an 18 yard TD pass from Racioppi.
Rowan converted the 2 point conversion, after two successive Buff
St. penalties put the ball on the 1 yard line. Racioppi ran it
in from the one, putting Rowan up 21-7.
WR Tyree Jackson
caught a 2 yard TD pass from Racioppi to put the Profs up 28-7
as time expired in the third quarter. A fumble by the Bengals
on their own 31 yard line, put Rowan in position for the final
score of the game.
Racioppi (21-30,
259 yards, 3 TD, 1 int) spread the ball around to nine different
receivers, including five wide receivers. WR Jon Berry had 3 catches
for 80 yards and 1 TD. WR Michael Osborne had 7 catches for 77
yards and 1 TD. WR Joe D'Imperio had 4 catches for 63 yards. LB
Nick Lopez led the defense with 9 tackles, 6 solo.
