In 2002, Rowan made their 10th appearance in the NCAA Championship Tournament. The Profs have a 23-10 (.697 winning pct) record in the national tournament. Rowan has played in the championship game the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl, five times in the past 12 years (1999-98-96-95-93). In 2001, 1997, and 1992, Rowan reached the semifinals on the tournament. The Profs rank third in total playoff wins all-time with 23, behind Ithaca College (25) and Mount Union (37).

In 1999, Rowan defeated Mount Union College (Alliance, OH) 24-17 in OT in the NCAA semifinals, ending MUC's NCAA record 54 game winning streak. Mount Union has not lost again since then, and has won three straight National Championships for a current total of seven National titles. Previously, the Profs had lost to Mount Union in 1998-96-93 in the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl.
