Pioneers Block .500 Season

By Tom Wilson
JT@rowanfootball.com

A William Paterson defender broke through the middle to block a Prof extra point, leaving the score 21-20 in favor of the Pioneers. Rowan had one last offensive drive and it looked like the winning one, until the Profs were intercepted to end the game.

Maybe if we blink it will be August 2008. For most of the second half of the season wins seemed within Rowan's grasp and would slowly fade as the clock struck zero. Things that usually turned in the Profs' favor turned instead for the opponent. Offensively Rowan lacked consistency in 2007. And they could never catch a break.

Yesterday William Paterson scored its second touchdown on a touchdown pass to Kareem Moon to go up 14-7 in the second quarter. I was right there in the corner of the end zone and watched Moon push off in order to clear space and catch the ball. The side judge was right there too and didn't throw a flag. His explanation to Rowan coaches as to why he didn't throw a flag was weak. It was typical of the types of calls that went against the Profs all season.

I have seen a lot of good things in this team. Many of the younger players have stepped up and made some exciting contributions. A full off season should bring these players closer together. Unhinge the playbook. Scare opponents again. Get back to ice hockey on a football field. Get up to the line and go. Make them fear the pass and open up those running lanes. This isn't the first time the Profs have missed the playoffs or not won the NJAC title. However, Rowan has dominated the Eastern football landscape for two decades. Winning Prof football begins anew, starting today. Heal up, work hard, and recruit well.

Thank you to all the seniors who gave so much. Join the Brown & Gold club and keep Prof football support strong.

Expect improvements in Rowanfootball.com. I have a ton of video highlights and audio highlights to start working on. The site also needs a redesign. If any one out there would like to help in a site redesign drop me an email.

Non-losing Season Streak On The Line Against WPU

By Tom Wilson
JT@rowanfootball.com

I apologize for not being more attentive to Rowanfootball.com this year and not being able to go more games this year. Professionally and personally it has been a busy year for me. I will try to remedy that next year.

Certainly feels weird with the Profs under .500 at 4-5. Normally Rowan is getting ready to clinch the NJAC and head into the playoffs. It isn’t for lack of effort. Injuries, inexperience and lack of execution at critical moments have hurt the Profs. In the five losses Rowan was less than a touchdown from wins (6.2 point loss average). They are realistically a handful of plays or so from being 9-0.

Saturday is the last game for the seniors. This senior class has seen quite a bit of success, three straight NJAC titles, three straight NCAA playoff appearances, two final four appearances, and two Lambert awards. In 2005, Rowan was a freak injury to Mike Orihel from probably winning a National Championship.

While this season hasn’t gone well by Prof standards, much can be redeemed on Saturday in Wayne against William Paterson. Rowan has not had a losing season since the 1980’s. A win against the Pioneers keeps that string of non-losing seasons intact with a .500 record.

I’ve been around this team enough to know that it is full of championship caliber leadership. These seniors know how to win. It’s time to decide how you want to go out. Forget about all the problems this season. Bring it every play. You are one of the most successful classes in Rowan football history.

On Saturday, secure your legacy, play like champions ONE… LAST… TIME. See you in Wayne.
